Peter F. Moore

Dr. Peter Moore graduated from the University of Melbourne Veterinary School in 1973. He joined the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis in 1975 as a PhD student and resident in Anatomic Pathology. He wrote his ACVP board exams in 1978 and graduated with a PhD in 1979. Dr. Moore joined the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1979 as an assistant professor of Anatomic Pathology. His research focus is leukocyte antigen biology and spontaneous leukocytic diseases of companion animals—especially the dog, cat and horse. Dr. Moore was a pioneer in the investigation and diagnosis of immune system neoplasia in dogs and cats. His work has been instrumental in the development of new diagnostic tests and treatment recommendations for dogs with histiocytic neoplasia, lymphoma, and leukemia.
Dr. Moore specializes in immunopathology with an emphasis on lymphoma and histiocytic disease. He is director of the Leukocyte Antigen Biology Laboratory (LABL), whose mission is to develop monoclonal antibody markers and molecular clonality assays for the investigation of leukocytic diseases in dogs, cats and horses. These reagents have been shared with veterinary colleagues worldwide and have resulted in a significant body of published work, which includes many collaborative publications with veterinary colleagues. LABL is also a diagnostic resource for difficult clinical cases, and for molecular clonality determination in lympho-proliferative diseases. LABL distributes monoclonal antibodies specific for leukocyte antigens (dog and cat) world-wide for research and diagnostics.
Dr. Moore received the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence in 1999, and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association /Waltham International Award for Scientific Achievement in 2008. He was honored with the Charles Louis Davis Foundation Journal Scholarship Award for research publications on 3 occasions. Dr. Moore also served as Associate Director of Laboratory Services for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) for many years before his retirement in 2018. He directs an active research and diagnostic laboratory in retirement.
When not engaged in academic pursuits, Dr. Moore tends a small Shiraz vineyard and winery on his property in Solano County west of Davis.
